When I finally opened my eyes I couldn't believe what I saw, sitting on the floor three feet away from my bed was a fire breathing dragon. I was so scared that my pajama bottoms got a little bit on the wet side. And I hadn't pee'd myself in over ten years. But when you wake up at midnight with a sixteen hundred pound, blue, green, and yellow fire breathing dragon crying at the small distance of three feet away, you are allowed to walk the path of the terrified!

Then I discovered just what horror truely is, the dragon turned it's massive head with it's deep scarlet red eyes and it stared straight at me. The dragon moved so close to me that I thought I could smell the lingering scent of sea salt on it's breath. When it opened it's mouth, sixty five jagged, blade-sharp teeth, wide enough to swallow me whole, intensified my terror to a state of disillusionment.

Until it started calling out for help. Then I realized that it didn't want to hurt anybody. But he had a spear stuck through his tounge. All that he wanted was to find somebody to remove the spear. I hoped. taking my life into my hands, I could feel my pulse pounding and hear the blood rush to my head, I took a very tentative step onto the dragon's tongue. With an ear piercing scream, that shook the whole city, he clamped his jaws shut around me.

I froze in fear, an emotion quickly becoming all too familliar. Luckily I didn't pee myself this time ...... but I almost did! Especially when I felt myself slowly slipping, I was slipping into this giant fiction creatures bubbling acidic stomach. I could feel the heat radiating up the same stomach that breathed fire, and I could see the radio active pulsing of an aqua marine light caused by the chemical properties of that fire.

Suddenly there was a horrible bucking motion underneath me. I tried frantically to brace myself against what I knew must be the beast's esophagus, but the bucking continued to increase, and I lost my balance and fell. I was sure that I was going to fall forever, drwaing out the pain in an excruciating death. But I landed pretty quickly. Since my eyes were closed I expected to feel the seering pain from the radio active stomach acid. Instead though, I felt a firm but tender, lumpy but flat, dripping, mushy surface beneath me.

I opened my eyes and found that the dragon had spit me back up to lay queit and motionlessly on his tongue once again. So I rolled onto my hands and knees and half crawled, half slithered to where the spearhead was. It took me four hours of pain staking labour before I finally managed to extract the spear form the dragon's tongue, then dispose of it correctly ( I launched it into the oblivion of the dragon's stomach).

However, when I tried to unclasp the dragons teeth I found I wasn't strong enough to do such a laborous a job. The dragon was apparently unwilling to allow it's dinner to escape. All I had done was delay my disitagration in the brutal heat of the dragons stomach acid.

With that thought the dragon briskly opened its jaw as to allow me free passage back into my bedroom where I relaxed just a little bit. It was funny seeing the dragon in my small room amidst my posters of famous singers like Brandy, Monica, Sting and Shawn Mullins. It was now nearly five in the morning and I had a big English assignment due and a History test later that morning. I didn't care; because how often do you get to talk to a real live Dragon sitting three feet from your bed?

The Dragon asked what school was and I told him that if he stayed with me and my friend I would take him to school with me that day. He had to stay on his best behavior though, and no burning or eating people, not unless they truly deserved it. He agreed to my rules which is why nine o’clock that morning I found myself in the office, explaining to the principal why there was a fifteen foot tall dragon following me around the school. I figured he could prevent people form panicking when the students saw my new friend.

Most people were so afraid that they avoided me hoping they hadn’t done anything to upset me in the past that I still remembered. Actually, everyone avoided me. Well, everyone except the school bully. He took it into his own hands to insure that I would never forget that he did not appreciate the appearance of my dragon. Stupid, stupid fool, after he threw his first punch, the dragon was comfortably full, and the students had one less bully to worry about.

Unfortunately however, the rat of the school went and tattled to the principal about what he had seen. After hearing the gruesomely vivid details, he took a while to regain some colour, when he did he was so mad, and so red in the face, I could hardly tell him and his apple apart! He expelled us, just because the dragon had eaten the school bully. I couldn’t believe it. By the time we left school though, there was one less rat, and one less principal as well. And the dragon was feeling bloated.

I knew if I went home I would be dead, the dragon and I went into hiding instead. He got bored really fast though, And decided to take me where no human had ever been before  …. into dragon land. It was to save me form the hate of humanity, and to repay kindness with kindness. I’d taken him to school, now he was going to introduce me to the dragons.

When we got there I saw millions of other dragons at least twice as tall as my dragon hiding and cowering in fear. And for the zillionth time in the last twenty four hours I got really frightened. These dragons were massive, and there was something here that even they were afraid of, what could possibly be big enough to scare a dragon? I wondered.

My dragon started laughing so hard I fell thirty feet off his back before he caught me again. When I asked what was so funny he said nothing is big enough to scare a dragon, they were frightened of me. Dragons have stories of fire breathing humans who eat dragons for breakfast! That was when I learned Dragons don’t really breath fire.

My dragon told them the truth about people, about what we thought about them as well as my bravery. He told the story of the spear head. And the dragons decided that they loved me. Over the years that I lived with them, they even  learned to respect me, and I was really happy. I had so much authority! Even the king of England could not have compared with me. It was totally awesome. I also had no fear of war, after all, who’s going to take on an army of dragons?

Suddenly though one day, I heard an oddly familiar sound, but it seemed to be coming from far away. It tugged at my attention, and I started traveling backwards through a dense fog, I didn’t know where I was heading, but I knew my time with the dragons was over.at some point, part of my mind realized that I was asleep. I woke with a start but my head was hammering really hard, and I was afraid to open my eyes. I laid like that for a while.

Don't tell me it won't hurt,
Cause we both know that it will,
But tell me to embrace the pain,
It's the only way to heal.
